Mus. 1073

Manuscript. Anon., Mass in a minor (Kyrie, Gloria and Credo only), for 2 violins, 4 voices and continuo. Score; copyist unidentified, presumably Italian, late 17th century.

Upright format, 270 x 225 mm. 45 folios, principally in two gatherings each of ten nested bifolios; the leaves are unfoliated. Contemporary binding of thick grey card, now within an early 20th-century binding of grey fabric over boards, quarter bound. (For related manuscripts in an identical binding, see Mus. 684 and Mus. 1110.) The original upper cover is annotated 'A Mass in Score' by an unidentified hand, possibly Richard Goodson Jr. Shelfmark 'K.24' written in ink on outside original upper cover (see below); also the number '103', which is not obviously a Christ Church shelfmark. Bookplate 2.

Provenance: from the Aldrich bequest, listed in Archives 1717, item K24, as 'A Book of Services', and in Dowding (main hand) as 'A Compleat Latin Service in score MS.'

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 59.

For other manuscripts at Christ Church written by this copyist, see the discussion under Mus. 385.
