Manuscript. Performing parts for two songs by Jakob Kremberg;
autograph. English, late 17th century. (For another Kremberg
autograph, see Mus. 1067.)
- ff. 1r-v: 'Aurelia has sweet pleasing charms', vocal bass part.
- ff. 2r-v: 'Aurelia', 'Violin or Hautbois' part.
- f. 3r: 'Aurelia', 'Harpsichord or Basson' part. (Blank on f.
3v.)
- ff. 4r-v: 'Lavinia has majestic charms', copied in score, with
the heading: 'On a Beautifull Lady. set to Musick by James Kremberg,
Musician in Ordinary to Her Majesty. The Words made by Sam: Waad
Gent:'.
Upright format, 335 x 217 mm. Four single sheets, pasted together
to form two bifolios, nested and bound within contemporary wrappers
of white paper. The outside upper wrapper has been annotated:
'Aurelia has sweet pleasing Charms. / Compos'd / By / James Kremberg
/ For / 1. Bass / 1. Violin, or Hautbois. / and / A Harpsichord'.
Bookplate 2 on inside upper wrapper. Now stitched into a folder
of modern card, and mounted impermanently on a cord within an
early 20th-century folder of stiff card and vellum with ties.
19th-century shelfmark: K.3.72.
Provenance: from the Aldrich bequest, listed in Archives 1717,
position K20, as 'Another song by James Keinbergh', to which
Havergal has added 'Kremberg' and 'Aurelia has &c.'. A
label numbered '20' is pasted to the outside lower original wrapper.
