Mus. 50Manuscript. Services by Henry Aldrich, copied in score by John Church; English, early 18th century. Evidently a partner volume to Mus. 614. Copying of item 3 appears to have been abandoned, leaving the work incomplete, followed by unused pages. Table of titles and composers in modern form. Display form found in manuscript.
Upright format, 333 x 213 mm. Eleven gatherings, as follows:
Contemporary binding of rough brown leather over boards, blind tooled on the upper and lower covers and spine with ornamental borders. Red leather inset on upper cover, gold tooled: 'Services: compos'd by Dr H. Aldrich'. Bookplate 1. List of contents on front flyleaf by Havergal. 19th-century shelfmark: I.1.1. Formerly Mus. 37. Provenance: presumably from the Aldrich bequest, but not listed in any of the 18th-century Christ Church catalogues until the entry for it by Hind in Archives 1717, at position H56: 'Services Compos'd by Dr. Aldrich.' In Burney 1778, f. 4, it is described as 'A beautiful MS. Score of Dr Aldridge's Services'. Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 6.
In addition to Mus. 50, the following manuscripts in the Christ
Church collection were copied by John Church:
