Provenance unknown. The earliest catalogue entry for these partbooks is by Hind in Dowding, at shelfmark M.4.31: 'Liber 2dus Sacrarum Cant: Gul: Byrd. Tenor only. 1591'. By 1779 the two partbooks had been reunited, and they are listed together in Burney (f. 9) as 'two odd Books of Birde's Cant. Sac.' Upright format, 215 x 160 mm. Early C20th bindings of stiff card and vellum. Shelfmark 'M.4.31' on titlepage of Mus. 248 in Hind's hand. No early bookplates. C19th shelfmarks: I.3.155-6.
