Mus. 1141a (ff. 52-3)

Manuscript. Bifolium containing two movements a3 in C major, each copied twice in score, the first time in draft, the second in fair copy; English, probably early 18th century. Probably part of the repertory of the Oxford city/university waits or 'musick'. The copyist/composer, who has not been identified, is here designated as Copyist 'Y'; he was also responsible for other autograph scores and/or sets of performing parts within the Christ Church collection. For further details, see the entry for Mus. 34-6.

The two movements are drafted side by side on the inner pages of the bifolium (ff. 52v-53). The fair copies were then written on the reverse side of the bifolium (ff. 52r, 53v). In the fair copy only, the second movement is headed '2 Trumpets'.

Upright format, 330 x 205 mm. Mounted on a guard, and bound into Mus. 1141a, an early 20th-century guardbook of stiff card and vellum. No early bookplate.

Provenance: probably from the Goodson bequest, together with all other manuscripts related to Mus. 34-6 (q.v.).

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 38.
