Upright format, 345 x 223 mm. 75 folios, of which only the first
27 have been foliated (in modern pencil); unused ruled staves
from f. 26v to the end of the volume. Items 1-4 in the inventory
above have been copied on slightly larger paper than is used
for item 5. Collation details as follows:
Early 18th-century binding of thick grey card edged in vellum, exactly corresponding to that of Mus. 54. Bookplate 2 on inside lower cover. 19th-century shelfmark: I.1.16. Provenance unknown, but most likely from the Aldrich bequest, on account of the presence of Bookplate 2. The earliest catalogue entry for this volume is by Hind in Dowding, where it occurs in the sequence of '18 Vols. of Musick, chiefly M.S. mark'd on the Backs, A. B. C. C.2. D. D.2. E. E.2. F. H. I. K. L. M. M.2. N. O. P. Q. T.'; Mus. 52 is annotated 'D' on the outside upper and lower covers, and at the head of the spine. Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 47.
