Mus. 1111
Manuscript. A miscellany of scores, vocal and instrumental parts,
organ accompaniments, pen-trials and sketches; English; probably
1760s or later (on grounds of the inclusion of item 8, from Thomas
Arne's oratorio 'Judith' of 1761). Various copyists, none of
whom has been identified. The volume may be associated with Christ
Church Cathedral, Oxford; see section on Provenance below. Comments
of individual pieces:
- Items 1-3, 7-9 and 17 are copied in score.
- Item 15: not the setting by William Boyce.
Items 1-4 are copied at what is now designated as the front of
the volume, on leaves paginated by the copyists. Items 5-19 are
copied at the rear with the volume inverted, initially on leaves
paginated by the copyist (item 5), thereafter on leaves foliated
in modern pencil.
