Mus. 936
Pepusch, John Christopher, 1667-1752 Grove DNB
A short treatise on harmony. Containing the chief rules for composing in two, three, and four parts. Dedicated to all lovers of musick, by an admirer of this noble and agreeable science.
London: Printed by J[ohn]. Watts. [Printed slip pasted over this:] Sold by J[ohn]. Walsh, 1730
RISM B/VI/2 p. 643

Provenance: probably from the Goodson bequest, listed in Malchair 1787 (f. 14) as 'A short treatise on harmony / London 1730'. On the original front inside cover, there are monetary calculations in the hand of Richard Goodson Jr (partly concealed under a bookplate). The mid-C18th shelfmark 'M.4.32' has been added by Hind both on the original outside upper cover and on the titlepage, as if the volume formed part of the Aldrich bequest; but the date of publication and the annotation by Goodson Jr confirm the Goodson provenance.

Oblong format, 190 x 125 mm. Mid C18th binding of marbled paper over thin card, now within an early C20th binding of red leather over boards. Bookplate 2. 19th-century shelfmark: E.1.1.

Microfilm: The printed music of Christ Church, Oxford, reel 65.
