Mus. 865(D)

Manuscript. Unidentified anthem beginning 'Hosanna peace in Heav'n'; apparently a composing short score, expressed throughout on two staves in treble and bass clefs, but with verbal indications of scoring. English, c. 1700.

Upright format, 333 x 210 mm. Two adjacent bifolios; 4 folios in total. Stab-holes in the gutter suggest that an earlier binding has been removed. Now stitched into a modern card folder, and mounted impermanently on cords within an early 20th century folder containing all 4 sections of Mus. 865.

Provenance unknown. Formerly shelved within the Portfolios at position I.2.γ (the reference 'I.2.γ' is written in red crayon on f. 1r). In Havergal Summary, the contents of that portfolio are described only in summary as '14 Anonymous anthems, mostly separate, with fragments of others, & 3 services in parts. MS'.

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 29.
