Provenance unknown. The earliest catalogue entry for this set is by Hind in Archives 1717, where it is listed as item H47: 'Purcell's Sonata's'; the shelfmark 'H.47' is written on the first page of Mus. 809. Hind's entry replaces an earlier one in both Archives 1717 and Dowding (main hand), which reads 'Songs &c'; the identity of this latter item is unknown.

Upright format, 268 x 205 mm. C18th covers of marbled paper over thin board, each now stitched into a folder of modern card and mounted impermanently on cords within an early C20th folder of stiff card and vellum. Bookplate 2 in Mus. 809. Original upper cover of Mus. 812 annotated by Havergal. C19th shelfmarks: K.4.23-26.
