Mus. 788Printed.
Bowman himself was responsible for the notation of the engraved music pages. Provenance unknown. Described as being part of the Aldrich bequest by Malchair (1787, f.1), where it is listed as item 2: 'Songs for one - two and three Voices Henry Bowman / the words in English. 11th book in order Markd L.' The volume itself, however, does not bear a shelfmark, and is not listed in the earliest catalogues of the Aldrich bequest, Archives 1717 and Dowding; nor does the shelfmark L11 exist in those catalogues. The binding, too, is uncharacteristic of Aldrich books. Possibly the volume reached Christ Church Library as a separate donation, and was subsequently shelved with the Aldrich bequest. Upright format, 360 x 225 mm. Late 17th-century binding of blue leather over boards, gold-tooled with fillets and ornaments on the upper and lower covers and spine; inside covers lined with marbled paper. Bookplate 2. 19th-century shelfmark: K.4.3. A label that probably bore an early shelfmark has been removed from the spine.
Microfilm: The printed music of Christ Church, Oxford, reel 41.
