Mus. 762

Manuscript. [Charles?] Jones, Evening Service in F major (M/N); voice-parts copied in score. Copyist unidentified, English, early 18th century. For an organ accompaniment to this work, copied by Richard Goodson Jr, see Mus. 1229, item 18.

Upright format, 333 x 215 mm. 5 folios; collation: 2 nested bifolios (= 4 folios, ff. 2-5), with a single leaf (f. 1) pasted at the front. Foliation is in modern pencil. Unused ruled staves on f. 5v. Formerly folded twice (once horizontally, once vertically). No early bookplate. Early 20th-century binding of thick card and vellum. 19th-century shelfmark: K.3.67.

Provenance unknown; not recorded in any of the 18th-century catalogues of the Christ Church music collections. However, the presence of the 19th-century shelfmark implies that Mus. 762 derives from either the Aldrich or (more likely) the Goodson bequest; and the latter possibility is reinforced by the fact that Goodson Jr copied an organ accompaniment for the work into Mus. 1229 (as item 18).

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 29.
