Mus. 619 (ff. 16-19)

Manuscript. Matthew Locke, Oxford Act song 'Descende caelo', copied by Edward Lowe. According to Trowles (ii, p. 106), 'author [of text] unknown ... First performed at the Sheldonian Theatre, [1673]'.

Upright format, 370 x 235 mm. Two adjacent bifolios (= 4 folios). Unused ruled staves on f. 19v, with annotation 'Song Mr Lock'. Now bound into Mus. 619, a late 18th-century guardbook bound in white parchment over boards.

Provenance: almost certainly from the Goodson bequest, together with the other contents of Mus. 619.
