'Aldrich binding' Type 1; the spines are gold-tooled with the heading 'FANT C / 4.B.'. Bookplate 2 in all three partbooks. 19th-century shelfmarks: I.5.24-6.

Provenance: from the Aldrich bequest, on the evidence of the binding, and the presence of Bookplate 2. This may be the set listed in Dowding (main hand) at position N.1.1 as 'Fancies / MS. in 4 vols'. In Mus. 414-16 itself, the letter 'N' is written in ink at the front of all three partbooks. Dowding's reference to '4 vols' may mistakenly also include a partbook from a different set, with a binding similar to that of Mus. 414-16.

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 16.
