Provenance: Richard Bressy (see below). Then part of the Aldrich bequest, listed in Archives 1717, item F15, as 'Montferrat's & Casatus's Mottets &c. & Borremans Cantiones Natalitiae 5 Books'; there is an equivalent entry in Dowding (main hand).

Upright format, 225 x 175 mm. Mid C17th bindings of vellum over boards, stamped 'R.B.' in gold on front covers; stubs of red ties at the fore-edge. In Mus. 284, the titlepage of tract 2 (publication date: 1649) is annotated 'Richardus Bressy', presumably the 'Richard Bressii' (or 'Piressii') of Dordrecht who matriculated Christ Church 23 July 1668, aged 18 (see Joseph Foster, Alumni Oxoniensis 1500-1714 (Oxford, 1891), p. 176). Pasted to the inside front cover of Mus. 284 is a sheet copied by Henry Aldrich, listing the set's contents. On the spines, probably in Aldrich's hand: 'Mot. 5. B.'; the partbooks have also been individually numbered I-V on the spine. Contents list added to a front flyleaf of Mus. 288 by the Aldrich Associate. Shelfmark 'F.15' on the front flyleaf of all five volumes. Bookplate 2 in all five volumes. C19th shelfmarks: I.3.191-5.
