Mus. 141-5Printed. Complete set of five partbooks.
Provenance: from the Aldrich bequest, listed in Archives 1717, item K17, as 'Carleton's Madrigals to 5 Voices', qualified in Dowding (main hand) as 'à 5 voc. Lond. 1601'. Upright format, c. 250 x 175 mm.; the sheets of the partbooks have not been trimmed. The set evidently remained unbound until the early C20th, when each partbook was stab-sewn into a folder of modern card and mounted impermanently on cords within a folder of stiff card and vellum. A protective paper wrapper, probably late C18th, is now attached to Mus. 141; it is annotated by Malchair, and has Bookplate 3. C19th shelfmarks: I.3.49-53.
Microfilm: The printed music of Christ Church, Oxford, reel 5.
