Manuscript. Alessandro Stradella, 'Benedictus Dominus Deus', copied in score by an unidentified English hand. English, late 17th century. Smudged date at end (f. 5v): possibly 'Feb 28 77/8'.
Upright format, 437 x 290 mm. Nested fascicle of 3 bifolios (= 6 folios in total). Unused ruled staves on ff. 6r-v. C18th wrappers of thick paper, the upper of which has been annotated by Malchair: 'Benedictus Dominus Deus. A Duet for a trible and CounterTenor Voice with a Bass. by Alessandro Stradella'. No early bookplate. Now bound into a folder of modern card, and mounted impermanently on cords within an early 20th-century folder of stiff card and vellum. Foliation was added in July 1999, and will not be visible on microfilms made before that date. Formerly Mus. 1136.
Provenance unknown. Not recorded in any early catalogue until Havergal Summary, where it is listed among the Portfolios at position I.2.β, item 12: 'A motett by Stradella. MS.'. In Mus. 1206 itself, the portfolio reference 'I.2.β' is written in red crayon on the ouside original upper wrapper, and at the head of f. 1r.
Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 60.
