Mus. 1180
Manuscript. Organ parts for fantasia-suites by Christopher Gibbons,
copied by Henry Aldrich; English, late 17th century. The copies,
which are unfinished, may have been intended to complement those
of Mus. 414-16, which it mirrors in the following ways:
- Mus. 1180, ff. 1-19r: unused ruled staves, possibly meant for
the repertory of Mus. 414-16, items 1-8.
- Mus. 1180, items 1-10: corresponds to the repertory of Mus. 414-16,
items 9-18. In Mus. 1180, items 6-10 are copied incomplete, but
with unused pages reserved for subsequent expansion.
- Mus. 1180, ff. 39v-end: unused ruled staves, possibly meant for
the repertory of Mus. 414-16, items 19-20.
This is one of the many music manuscripts at Christ Church copied by Henry Aldrich.
