Mus. 1154(F*)

Manuscript. 2 instrumental parts ('Violino Primo', 'Violino Secondo') for [Giovanni Battista Bassani], motet 'Ejah Tubae', the first copied by James Talbot, the second in an unidentified hand. English, late 17th century. For the matching vocal score of this work, and details of other performing parts for motets by Bassani also copied by Talbot, see the entry for Mus. 763.

Upright format, 327 x 207 mm. Two bifolios, nested together; bifolio 1 (ff. 1-2): 'Violino Primo'; bifolio 2 (ff. 3-4): 'Violino Secondo'. Unbound at the end of the modern card folder for Mus. 1154(F), which itself is mounted impermanently on a cord within an early 20th-century folder of stiff card and vellum containing all 13 sections of Mus. 1154.

Provenance uncertain, but most likely from the Aldrich bequest. Formerly shelved within the Portfolios at position I.2.d (the reference 'I.2.d' is written in red crayon on f. 1r). In Havergal Summary, the contents of that portfolio are described only in summary as '7 Latin motetts; 5 Italian cantatas, & 2 fragments; & 8 Songs & Duets &c: Anon: MS.'

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 60.

For a printed edition of this motet by Bassani, see Mus. 163-6.

For a list of other music manuscripts at Christ Church copied by James Talbot, see the entry for Mus. 1152.

The unidentified scribe of ff. 3-4 also copied Mus. 1141a (ff. 78-85).
