Mus. 1147(B)

Manuscript. The outer bifolio of an unidentified motet 'Stillate mellis flumina' for high voice and continuo; the inner bifolio is now Mus. 1142b (f. 61). Score; copyist unidentified, presumably Italian, late 17th century.

Oblong format, 305 x 230 mm. Bifolio; foliation is modern. Formerly folded once horizontally and twice vertically. Pasted into a folder of modern card, and mounted impermanently on a cord within the early 20th-century folder containing both sections of Mus. 1147.

Provenance unknown, but probably from the Aldrich bequest (see below). First recorded by Hind in Dowding, where it is listed at shelfmark M.4.16 as 'Stillate &c. M.S.'; in Mus. 1147(B) itself, the shelfmark 'M.4. No. 16' is written in ink on f.1r. Subsequently shelved within the Portfolios at position I.2.δ (the reference 'I.2.δ' is written in red crayon on f. 1r). In Havergal Summary, the contents of that portfolio are described only in summary as '7 Latin motetts; 5 Italian cantatas, & 2 fragments; & 8 Songs & Duets &c: Anon: MS.'

Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 39.

For other manuscripts at Christ Church written by this copyist, see the list appended to the entry for Mus. 385. Several of these securely derive from the Aldrich bequest.
