Mus. 1139Manuscript. Fair copies in score of four single-key suites or 'sets' in D major; English, probably early 18th century. Probably part of the repertory of the Oxford city/university waits or 'musick'. The composer/copyist, who has not been identified, is here designated as 'Copyist Z'; he was also responsible for many other autograph scores and/or sets of performing parts within the Christ Church collection. For further details, see the entry for Mus. 34-6. Originally two bifolia, each folded horizontally; now presented as two single sheets in upright format, each c. 675 x 550 mm, numbered in modern pencil and bound within an early 20th-century folder of stiff card and vellum. Formerly Mus. 1048 (see the printed label pasted to the recto of sheet 2).
In the descriptions of contents below, sets in the same key are
distinguished from one another by means of roman numerals (I,
II, etc), using and extending the numbering sequence of Mus. 34-6. Within each set, the number of movements is shown in
round brackets: '(1-5)', etc.
Microfilm: manuscript music, reel 37.
