The manuscript also contains the following:

  • Inside upper cover: table of the notes of the gamut.
  • ff. 3v-4r: draft by Goodson Jr of the opening of a polyphonic vocal work beginning 'Why ... thy so'.
  • ff. 7v-8r: draft by Goodson Jr of the opening of an instrumental work in up to five parts.
  • Inside lower cover: annotated 'Charles Eyre' several times.

Oblong format, 185 x 145 mm. 60 leaves, plus stubs of several leaves now excised. Only the first 8 leaves are foliated (in modern pencil); unused ruled staves in the remainder of the volume, some with pen-trials. Early 18th-century binding of brown leather over boards, gold-tooled with ornaments and borders on the upper and lower covers. Metal clasps at the outer edges. No early bookplate. No 19th-century shelfmark.
