Mus. 1079

Manuscript. Volume of largely unused pages ruled with 6-line staves, as if for copying music for lute, keyboard, harp or lyra viol. The following have been added by Richard Goodson Jr:

FRONT:

  • f. [1r]: Words (only) of Horace, Odes, Book 4/V ('Divis orte bonis'), stanza 1, in parallel Latin and English translation. (For a fragment of Goodson Jr's setting of this text, see Mus. 622, item 4.) Followed by some note-names ('B-mi' etc), copied by a different (unidentified) hand.
  • f. [3r]: annotation: 'Mem: Mr Batley / Xstmass at 3 times in a week', followed by some tallies.

REAR:
  • f. [1r]: opening of an unidentified English-texted 'Magnificat' in C major for four voices; evidently a composing score by Goodson Jr.

Upright format, 225 x 175 mm. 45 folios, unfoliated. 17th-century binding of brown leather over boards; upper and lower covers gold tooled with fillets and small ornaments. Inside upper cover signed 'R. Goodson [Jr]'. No early bookplate. No 19th-century shelfmark.

Provenance: presumably from the Goodson bequest.

Not included in the standard microfilm edition.
